Ishaani's pov
I was walking down the corridor toward my room when someone grabbed my wrist and pulled me back. It was dark, but when the light hit my face-
I saw him.
Standing dangerously close, staring straight into my eyes.
I looked around. It was a vacant room on our girls' hostel floor.
I returned my gaze to him, but my mind was stuck on the consequences he would have to bear for standing on the girls' floor-until I noticed the expression on his face.
"What was that, Reyansh?" I looked back into his eyes, then at my hand - still in his trembling but tightening grip.
"Why was he touching you?" he asked, ignoring my question.
I stared at him, trying to make sense of his behaviour, and tried to pull my wrist free.
"Answer me, Ishuu," he said, pinning me against the wall. His hands moved to my waist, but his eyes stayed locked on mine.
"It's Ishaani to you, Reyansh," I replied. I felt his grip tighten.
Before he could respond, thunder cracked in the sky, and it suddenly began to rain.
He blinked, looked at the window and then back into my eyes.
"Does it even matter now, Reyansh? I've let go of whatever happened, but I haven't forgotten what you did, and-"
Before I could finish, I felt his grip start to loosen. His hands trembled as if trying to hold on.
Then the window slammed shut from the wind.
He stepped back, leaning against the wall for support.
He closed his eyes.
I looked at him but he was standing there once again. Cold, like we were strangers, who were never meant to be anything.
"What do you think you're trying to do? First you dragged me here like that, and now you can't even face the truth?" I asked, looking at him just like he had looked at me moments ago.
He took a step towards me but then turned towards the wall, his hand clenching into a fist.
The thunder reached my ears, loud enough to make me flinch, yet quiet enough for me to hear what he said.
"Leave, Ishaani."
Just two words.
I felt a sharp pain in my chest, as if everything I'd been trying to hide was about to spill out. Every time I saw him, the memories, the way he said I was just a misunderstanding, were still there, right between us. Right in front of me.
"Wow. I didn't come here on my own, but thank you, Reyansh Oberoi. You just made things easier for me. Your guilt, your actions, everything was a lie. Except this."
My voice cracked at my last words, but I covered it up.
When I didn't move, he snapped, "GET OUT, ISHAANI!"
Tears welled up in my eyes.
I looked at him, still facing the wall through my blurry vision... and I walked away.
